KFOR Commander Major General Ozkan Ulutash has stated that while the security situation in Kosovo remains generally calm, it is also fragile and susceptible to outbreaks of renewed tension.
Ulutash highlighted several factors contributing to Kosovo’s potential volatility, including irresponsible political rhetoric and the persistent use of disinformation.
“Overall, the security situation in Kosovo remains calm, but at the same time fragile, with the potential for new outbreaks of tension. The reasons are multiple, including unresolved issues, occasional irresponsible rhetoric, and the ongoing use of disinformation,” Ulutash said.
He emphasized the critical importance of progress in the EU-facilitated dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, noting that NATO fully supports this process. According to Ulutash, the framework of dialogue is essential for resolving open issues in a way that respects the rights of all communities, which is key to sustainable security in Kosovo and regional stability.
By pointing out these risks, Ulutash implicitly highlights how political actors and disinformation campaigns continue to undermine stability, reinforcing the fragility of peace despite the absence of immediate violence.
