The NATO-led KFOR mission in Kosovo has stated that the issue concerning the Kosovo Government’s announcement to build two new bridges over the Iber River in Mitrovica lies outside its mandate.
“Regarding your questions, the matter you raised is outside KFOR’s competencies. Therefore, we refer you to the appropriate institutions for any comments,” a KFOR spokesperson stated .
However, KFOR clarified that their troops will continue to maintain a fixed presence on the main bridge over the Iber River and will carry out regular patrols in the surrounding areas to ensure a safe and secure environment.

Regarding northern Mitrovica and other regions across Kosovo, KFOR emphasized that it maintains a visible and flexible military presence and is ready to respond to any significant security developments in the interest of all communities in Kosovo.
“KFOR continues to implement its mandate – based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999 – to contribute to a safe and secure environment for all people and communities living in Kosovo, as well as to freedom of movement,” the statement concluded.
