The Commander of NATO’s peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, Major General Enrico Barduani, led a commemorative ceremony today marking the 26th anniversary of KFOR’s establishment, held at the military camp “Film City” in Pristina.
The event was attended by representatives from the 33 troop-contributing countries, beginning with the laying of a laurel wreath at the monument honoring those who have fallen since the mission began in 1999.
In his address, Major General Barduani paid tribute to the 220 service members who lost their lives while fulfilling their duties:
“Their example should inspire our daily efforts in fulfilling our mission.”
“KFOR, as NATO’s longest-running and currently largest mission in history, stands as a testament to the Alliance’s steadfast and tangible commitment… and its efforts remain essential in supporting the necessary political progress toward long-term regional stability,” the KFOR statement reads.
KFOR’s mission continues to operate under UN Security Council Resolution 1244, ensuring a safe and secure environment for all citizens of Kosovo and freedom of movement — impartially and continuously.
