July 28, 2025 – Pristina — The NATO-led mission in Kosovo, KFOR, in close coordination with U.S. aviation forces stationed at Regional Command-East, has launched aerial operations to assist in extinguishing widespread wildfires across parts of the country.
According to an official statement released by KFOR, two UH-60 Black Hawk military helicopters conducted multiple airborne water-drop missions aimed at containing the flames threatening civilian lives and local infrastructure.
“During two hours of operation, air crews carried out a total of 18 water drops, delivering over 43,500 liters of water to fire-affected areas,” the statement read.
The intervention underscores KFOR’s rapid readiness and strong commitment to supporting local institutions and protecting civilians during crisis situations.
This joint effort comes amid a rising number of wildfires reported throughout Kosovo during an ongoing period of extreme heat and dry conditions.
