Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has rejected a new proposal for negotiations from U.S. President Donald Trump.
Khamenei also denied claims that the United States has destroyed Iran’s nuclear capabilities. The two countries previously engaged in five rounds of indirect nuclear talks, which culminated in a 12-day aerial conflict in June, during which Israeli and U.S. forces bombed Iranian nuclear sites.
“Trump says he is a negotiator, but if an agreement comes with coercion and a predetermined outcome, it is not a deal—it is more of an imposition and provocation,” Khamenei stated, according to state media.
Last week, Trump told the Israeli parliament that it would be very positive if Washington could negotiate a “peace agreement” with Tehran, following the recent ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
