The Kosovo Liberation Army War Veterans Organization (OVL-UÇK) has sent a letter to former U.S. envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Richard Grenell, calling for a review of the judicial processes at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers, a financial audit, and an independent investigation into how the court operates.
In a lengthy letter addressed to the former U.S. official, the veterans demanded the closure of the Specialist Chambers, calling it “a disgrace to American justice and values.”
“Dear Ambassador, we address you not as politicians, but as veterans reaching out to a fellow veteran. Brothers-in-arms. Defenders of freedom. We ask you to raise this issue within your administration. American taxpayers did not send their hard-earned money to Europe to finance a court that tramples the very values America was built on. President Trump is rewriting the outdated rules of political control over independent justice, and under these new rules, this court must be shut down. It is a disgrace to American justice and American values. We demand a full review, a financial audit, and an independent investigation into how this court operates and how its officials live like kings while our freedom fighters are held in cells merely for defending that freedom,” the letter states.
The veterans further claim the Specialist Chambers has strayed from its original purpose and has become a political weapon. They urged Grenell and President Donald Trump’s administration to put a stop to what they describe as a “witch hunt.”
OVL-UÇK emphasized that veterans played a crucial role in building a democratic Kosovo by “turning fighters into citizens.”
“We have faced justice before (at the ICTY in The Hague), and we did not run. Our leaders at the time voluntarily stepped down to prove the purity of our war, because when justice is just, the truth prevails. But the Specialist Chambers? That’s not justice. That is a witch hunt. President Trump knows better than anyone what happens when justice is hijacked by political elites it becomes a weapon used to silence patriots. That is exactly what this court has become a tool to silence those who brought peace, stopped genocide, and defended freedom,” the letter continues.
According to the veterans’ organization, the accused in The Hague are being silenced, and “this is not justice, but a staged political trial.”
“If freedom means anything, if justice is not just a word but a principle, then this cannot be tolerated. We fought against Milošević to stop precisely this kind of abuse. And we will raise our voices again. America stood by us when we needed it most. Now we ask you once more: please, do not allow this court to write a false history. Do not let corrupt elites turn veterans into criminals. This is not just a plea for help it is a call to defend freedom, once again,” the letter concludes.
