Romanian President Klaus Iohannis has announced that he will remain in office until new presidential elections are held. The date for the new elections will be determined by the incoming government, following recent parliamentary elections.

“I will remain in office until a new president is elected,” said Iohannis, a pro-European leader, while reassuring investors, the European Union, and NATO that “Romania remains a stable and strong country.”

Earlier today, Romania’s Constitutional Court annulled the presidential election process, which was set for a second round of voting on Sunday. This decision comes amid growing concerns over Russian interference. The court cited the need to ensure the validity and legality of the elections, ordering the entire electoral process to start anew.

This ruling came just two days after intelligence documents were declassified, revealing that Russia had conducted a coordinated online campaign to promote the far-right outsider Kălin Georgescu, who had received the most votes in the first round.
