Lawyer Arianit Koci, representing former Kosovo police officer Arbnor Spahiu, has reacted to his client’s arrest and detention by Serbian authorities. Koci expressed serious concern over the reasoning behind the detention order, calling it unsubstantiated.

“The procedure is still ongoing. For now, we are in a legal battle to get Arbnor out of detention because he truly has no connection to this case,” Koci stated on RTK.

Serbian Accusations and Koci’s Rebuttal

According to Koci, Serbian authorities accuse Arbnor Spahiu of triple murder under Article 114 of the Serbian Criminal Code, claiming he was part of a sniper unit during the events in Banjska village. However, Koci dismisses these claims as false.

“Arbnor was never a sniper. He was a regular police officer and later a member of the special unit, but he left this position at his personal request for family reunification. His request was made in October 2022 and was approved in November of the same year. He lives with his family in Germany,” Koci explained.

He emphasized that the justification for the detention is deficient, lacking concrete evidence and a clear legal basis.

Witnesses and Case Sensitivity

Koci also mentioned his previous statement that some witnesses are listed in the case documents but did not confirm whether they are members of the Kosovo Police. “I said that some police officers were mentioned, but I did not confirm whether they are part of the Kosovo Police or not. I cannot provide other information at this stage due to the sensitivity of the case,” he added.

In September 2023, Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku was killed in Banjska village by a terrorist group led by Milan Radoičić. Serbian authorities allege Spahiu participated in the armed confrontation, despite him having resigned from the Kosovo Police a year before the incident.
