Glauk Konjufca, the newly mandated candidate of Lëvizja Vetëvendosje (LVV) for Prime Minister of Kosovo, announced that he will seek coalition agreements with political parties to avoid December elections and ensure the approval of the 2026 state budget.
Konjufca made the statement following the General Council meeting of LVV, where he was proposed as the party’s second candidate for forming a new government.
“We will seek coalition agreements with political parties. The goal is simple: to establish a new government to achieve two critical objectives — first, to avoid immediate elections, and second, to secure parliamentary cooperation for the 2026 budget. If these objectives are not met, it would not be in Kosovo’s best interest. This is why LVV proposed me as the mandatee today, and I accepted,” Konjufca stated.
He emphasized that his proposal will soon be sent to President Vjosa Osmani, and he expressed optimism about positive collaboration with other parties to prevent elections in December and approve the budget.
“This is not just a priority for LVV, but for the majority of Kosovo’s citizens. If these steps are not taken, Kosovo could face five elections in one year, which would be exhausting for citizens and costly — approximately €40 million,” Konjufca added.
Konjufca clarified that the cooperation sought from opposition parties is limited to urgent issues, not a long-term governing coalition:
“All of these are urgent matters, especially in the context of the EU Growth Plan. We risk losing hundreds of millions of euros if we fail. I urge opposition parties to cooperate on these priorities, not to form a long-term coalition government — simply to ensure these critical issues pass in Parliament,” he explained.
The General Council of LVV officially proposed Glauk Konjufca as the party’s second mandatee for forming the government, following a proposal by LVV leader Albin Kurti, aimed at avoiding two rounds of elections.
The 10-day constitutional deadline for President Vjosa Osmani to either mandate a candidate for Prime Minister or call early elections will end on November 5, 2025.
