A Kosovar citizen who was arrested earlier today in Serbia has been released and is now on his way back to Kosovo, lawyer Arianit Koci has confirmed.

According to Koci, the individual was detained by Serbian authorities while transiting through Serbia due to the presence of a UÇK emblem on his vehicle. The identity of the released citizen has not been made public.

Koci reiterated that the arrest was unjustified and once again urged members of the Kosovar diaspora to exercise heightened caution when traveling through Serbia.

“Avoid traveling through Serbia with UÇK emblems or symbols on your vehicles, as such signs may lead to detention or arrest by Serbian authorities,” Koci warned.

Rising Number of Arrests in 2025

During 2025, there has been an increase in arrests and at least one reported abduction of Kosovo citizens by Serbian authorities. Most of those detained have been suspected of alleged ‘war crimes’ or ‘violations of Serbia’s constitutional order’.

Observers link this wave of arrests to the suspension of the Kosovo–Serbia dialogue and the lack of cooperation between judicial systems.

For Kosovo’s authorities, such detentions carried out under these accusations are considered arbitrary and unjust.
