The Kosovo Institute for War Crimes and Albania’s Directorate of Archives signed a cooperation agreement today to strengthen institutional ties and document war crimes committed during the Kosovo War.

The agreement facilitates the exchange of archival materials and expertise, enhancing efforts to preserve historical truth regarding crimes committed by Serbia during the 1998–99 war.

Atdhe Hetemi, Executive Director of the Institute, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, particularly in accessing Albania’s extensive archives. “These materials, including testimonies from refugees and records of humanitarian efforts, are vital in completing the historical mosaic of Kosovo’s past,” said Hetemi.

Ardit Bido, head of Albania’s archives, highlighted the importance of documenting war crimes for in-depth and objective studies. “This agreement supports the crucial work of documenting and understanding the atrocities of the late 20th century,” Bido stated.

The Institute for War Crimes in Kosovo serves as a hub for collecting evidence, fostering historical truth, and promoting justice and peace.
