Kosovo’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, has announced that work on the country’s new ammunition production facility is set to begin shortly, following the signing of an important agreement yesterday.

Speaking to the media, Sveçla emphasized the significance of the new facility, which will produce ammunition for both Kosovo’s army and police forces. He confirmed that work on the plant is expected to start soon, with the project proceeding on a fast track.

“The agreement signed yesterday is extremely important for our country. The Republic of Kosovo will build its own capacities to produce the ammunition needed for our military and police forces. I am confident that work will begin soon, and within a record time frame, in accordance with the technical requirements, the project will be realized,” said Sveçla.

He added that this project aims to address the country’s current deficiencies, both in terms of immediate supply needs and the long-term reserve requirements, which are crucial for the functioning of security institutions.

The ammunition factory will be built in collaboration with Turkey’s state-owned defense industry manufacturer “Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi” (MKE), which will ensure that the facility meets NATO standards. According to MKE’s announcement, the factory will be a modern production facility, contributing to the strengthening of Kosovo’s defense industry while also supporting Turkey’s defense exports.

“We signed an agreement for the establishment of a modern ammunition factory in Kosovo that will produce according to NATO standards. With this contract, we are proud to contribute to Turkey’s defense industry exports while strengthening the defense industry of our brotherly country, Kosovo,” MKE stated on social media.
