Kosovo will participate in the International Stabilization Force (ISF) in Gaza, joining troops from Indonesia, Morocco, Kazakhstan, and Albania, U.S. Major General Jasper Jeffers confirmed during a board meeting on Thursday.

Two countries, Egypt and Jordan, will focus on training local police forces.

According to Jeffers, the ISF will initially deploy to Rafah, in southern Gaza, to train the police, before expanding sector by sector. The long-term plan anticipates up to 20,000 troops and 12,000 police officers to ensure stabilization and security.

The deployment comes amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, which erupted in October 2023, resulting in over 1,200 Israeli deaths and hundreds taken hostage. Retaliatory Israeli strikes in Gaza have reportedly caused over 60,000 deaths, a humanitarian crisis, and severe infrastructure damage.
