Since 2022, the governments of Kosovo and Albania have not held a joint meeting.
After the cancellation of the 2023 meeting by the Prime Minister of Albania, there is still no scheduled date for when the two governments will meet.
Meanwhile, the government of Kosovo is set to hold a meeting with the government of North Macedonia next Monday, but no date has been set for a meeting with Albania.
The Ambassador of Albania to Kosovo, Petrit Malaj, stated that nothing is yet determined.
“There are several issues that deserve attention and need to be addressed by the two governments, such as certain concerns or important matters that require agreements, whether with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Interior, or the Ministry of Agriculture. These issues have been discussed by the ministers from Kosovo and Albania, and all of them are still under discussion. Surely, there will be a government meeting where agreements will be signed,” said Ambassador Malaj.
“It’s not just about signing agreements, but also putting them into practice. As you well know, the free movement of Albanians from both countries is absolutely free and has had no control from either side for up to nine months,” he added.
The tradition of joint meetings between the two governments began in 2014, when the two governments met in Prizren, the city of the League of Prizren, under the motto “The City of the League Welcomes You.” At that time, the government in Kosovo was led by Hashim Thaçi.
The next joint meeting was held on March 23, 2015, in Tirana under the motto “One Land, One People, One Dream,” with Isa Mustafa in power.
In 2016, the meeting was held in Pristina, again under Prime Minister Isa Mustafa.
In 2017, the two governments were brought together in the city of Korça, led by Edi Rama and Ramush Haradinaj.
In 2018, the meeting was held in Pejë on November 26, with Ramush Haradinaj still in power.
In 2020, the meeting took place in Tirana between the Hoti Government and the second Rama Government.
In 2021, the Kurti Government and the Rama Government met in Elbasan.
The most recent meeting between the Kurti and Rama Cabinets took place in Pristina on June 20, 2022.
