Kosovo’s Assembly will convene once again today in the 11th attempt to constitute the ninth legislature. The session is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM.
Since the first session on April 15, the formation of the Assembly has faced repeated delays and political deadlock. So far, only two agenda points have been approved:
- The adoption of the mandate verification report, and
- The swearing-in of deputies.
However, the election of the Speaker of the Assembly remains unresolved due to deep political disagreements.
The Vetëvendosje Movement (VV), which holds the parliamentary majority, has repeatedly proposed Albulena Haxhiu for the role of Speaker. But she has failed to secure enough votes in six out of ten sessions.
The opposition parties—PDK (Democratic Party of Kosovo), LDK (Democratic League of Kosovo), AAK (Alliance for the Future of Kosovo), and the Serb List—have firmly rejected her candidacy, calling it unacceptable.
In the tenth continuation of the inaugural session, these opposition parties once again refused to propose a representative to oversee the secret ballot, effectively blocking the voting process.
This political impasse forced the acting chair, Avni Dehari, to interrupt the session once again. Today’s session may determine whether the Assembly can finally move forward or remain paralyzed in deadlock.
