The newly elected Speaker of the Kosovo Assembly, Dimal Basha, has called for a consultative meeting of the Assembly Presidency today at 13:00, despite the body not being fully constituted.

The move has sparked political backlash, with both the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) announcing they will boycott the session, calling it unconstitutional since the Presidency is not yet complete.

So far, four deputy speakers have been elected:

  • Albulena Haxhiu (Vetëvendosje)
  • Vlora Çitaku (PDK)
  • Kujtim Shala (LDK)
  • Emilja Rexhepi (representing non-majority communities, excluding Serbs)

The seat reserved for the Serb community representative remains vacant, leaving the Assembly Presidency incomplete.

On Saturday, Basha declared that all options to elect the remaining member had been exhausted, effectively closing the constitutive session. However, his decision to move forward with a consultative meeting has further fueled debate over the legitimacy of Assembly decisions without a fully formed Presidency.

The situation underscores the political tensions in Pristina, as parties remain divided over constitutional interpretation and the path forward in completing the Assembly’s leadership structure.
