Kosovo’s newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) will convene today for the 51st time in another attempt to constitute the ninth legislature, which emerged from the parliamentary elections held on February 9.
Persistent Deadlock Over Election Commission
Unlike previous instances, the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo continued its constitutive session on Monday, where presiding MP Avni Dehari once again requested political entities to submit proposals for members of the Electoral Commission. This commission is essential for electing the Assembly’s Speaker through a secret ballot.
In the absence of new proposals, presiding MP Dehari proceeded to put the previously proposed commission composition to a vote. Fifty-three MPs voted in favor of this composition, with no votes against or abstentions.
Under these circumstances, the Assembly adjourned, with the next session scheduled for today, Wednesday, July 23, at 11:00 AM.
