The Kosovo Business Alliance (LBK) has issued a strong call to the Energy Regulatory Office (ZRRE) to immediately comply with court rulings and suspend the implementation of its decision mandating businesses to transition to the open electricity market.

LBK expressed deep concern over what it describes as a unilateral and non-consultative move by ZRRE, warning that such action could have serious repercussions on the country’s economy. The Alliance criticized ZRRE’s approach, allegedly backed silently by the Government, as a misguided strategic step that does not align with the needs of Kosovo’s business community or broader economic development goals.

“ZRRE and the Government have made a decision without in-depth consultations, without economic impact analysis, and without a clear transitional plan to ensure stable and affordable energy supply for the private sector,” the LBK stated.

The Alliance further questioned the agenda behind ZRRE’s actions, suggesting that the direction taken is not in line with the strategic interests of local producers and businesses, which represent the backbone of the national economy.

LBK emphasized that the competent court has already ruled the decision to be in violation of existing legislation and ordered its suspension. Therefore, the regulator’s insistence on enforcing it is deemed senseless and unacceptable.

The Alliance urged an immediate review of the decision and called for concrete measures to halt its implementation until a comprehensive impact assessment is conducted in collaboration with the business community and institutional stakeholders.

“We demand transparency, accountability, and a reasoned approach to such a critical issue for Kosovo’s economic future,” the statement concludes.
