On Thursday, May 29, the business community in Kosovo is set to hold a protest to express discontent and concern over the recent decision by the Energy Regulatory Office (ZRrE) that mandates businesses to forcibly enter the liberalized energy market.
According to a statement from the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce (OEK), the protest will take place from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
“If institutions do not respond and fail to take concrete steps to address the demands of the business community, protests will continue until their goals are achieved,” the statement reads, as reported by KlanKosova.tv.
On behalf of Kosovo’s business community, OEK is urging institutions to urgently reconsider the decision and to implement a transitional phase that would allow for gradual and fair integration into the liberalized energy market.
“The lack of market preparedness and institutional support in this process is creating significant inequality in the market, endangering competitiveness, causing substantial damage to businesses, and directly impacting the country’s economy—including a drop in local production and job losses,” the statement continues.
Despite continuous efforts and repeated calls for honest, transparent, and constructive dialogue with government institutions, OEK expressed regret that no genuine cooperation has been achieved to establish a fair and manageable transition for businesses being moved into the deregulated electricity market.
