The Central Election Commission (CEC) is currently focused on preparing for the upcoming local elections in October, according to CEC spokesperson Valmir Elezi. Elezi stated that the CEC has not discussed the media speculations regarding potential early parliamentary elections for the Assembly of Kosovo.

“The CEC does not comment on political developments, and as far as the CEC is concerned, we organize an electoral process once it has been announced by the relevant institution, such as the President,” Elezi told RTV21.

“To be honest, the CEC has not discussed the rumors in the media or various opinions appearing in the media about a new electoral process for the elections for the Assembly of Kosovo, and naturally, in this regard, it has not discussed a new electoral process or the impact it might have. All the work of the CEC at this time is oriented towards organizing the local elections, which requires a lot of commitment since there are two types of elections: for municipal mayors and municipal assemblies,” Elezi emphasized.

He added that the period for political entities to apply for certification will soon open. Unlike parliamentary elections, the number of candidates in local elections is manifold higher, with specificities and a greater organizational load, and all of the CEC’s work is focused in this direction.
