Kosovo’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, provided new details about the closure of a parallel Serbian institution in North Mitrovica. He emphasized that this action was carried out in full respect of Kosovo’s legislation and as part of inter-institutional cooperation to fight illegal activities within the country.
According to materials gathered by the Kosovo Police, Sveçla explained that the institution had been illegally collecting payments from citizens and numerous businesses for the use of properties that were allegedly under their management.
“This abuse, carried out under Serbian flags and emblems, has been closed today and will be investigated thoroughly,” Sveçla said.
The Kosovo Police announced that they placed a seal on a building in North Mitrovica on Thursday, where it is suspected that the illegal institution operated. The Police also confirmed the news to Reporteri.net through Deputy Director of the Kosovo Police, Veton Elshani.
“At around 11:00 AM today, the Police assisted Mitrovica’s municipal officers in verifying their property at three high-rise buildings. Upon entering this building (on the first floor), the Police spoke with several individuals who claimed to be employees of what appeared to be an illegal institution,” Elshani said.
“After verifying some documents, we notified the Mitrovica Prosecutor’s Office and opened a case on suspicion of document forgery. The employees were allowed to take their personal belongings and leave, and seals were placed on the premises,” Elshani added.
He further confirmed that no arrests were made during the operation. The Police will continue to thoroughly verify the documentation found at the site. There were no incidents during the police action.
