Kosovo has risen one spot in the latest FIFA rankings. From 80th place in December, the team has now moved up to 79th.
The new FIFA rankings were published on Monday afternoon, one day after the conclusion of the Africa Cup of Nations.
The 79th position marks the best-ever ranking for the Kosovo national football team.
Meanwhile, Albania remains in 63rd place.
Kosovo’s rise was aided by Gabon’s drop of eight positions. Gabon participated in the Africa Cup of Nations and lost all three of its matches, falling to 86th place, while several other national teams advanced one or two spots.
The top positions remain unchanged: Spain is first, followed by Argentina and France. England is fourth, and Brazil is fifth. Morocco has climbed three spots to now occupy 8th place.
Kosovo will play in the World Cup 2026 playoffs in March. On March 26, they will face Slovakia in Bratislava in the semifinals. The winner of the Slovakia–Kosovo match will advance to the playoff final against either Turkey or Romania.
Slovakia has also advanced one spot and is now ranked 44th.
