The Basic Court of Prishtina has extended the detention of Fatmir Sheholli for an additional two months. Sheholli was arrested in October on suspicion of espionage on behalf of the Serbian Intelligence Agency (BIA).
Court Decision
The court’s spokesperson, Mirlinda Gashi, confirmed that following a request from the Special Prosecutor’s Office of Kosovo, the pre-trial judge approved the extension of Sheholli’s detention until January 2026.
Sheholli had originally been arrested on October 9, 2025, with an initial detention period of one month. He is suspected of acting under the instructions of high-ranking BIA official Bojan Dimić, providing ongoing assistance to the foreign intelligence service.
Espionage Allegations
According to the Special Prosecutor’s Office, Sheholli was allegedly recruited by the BIA to collect and transmit information about “purportedly usurped” Serbian properties in Kosovo, local business activities, and the functioning of Kosovo institutions. His tasks reportedly included gathering intelligence and disseminating it through online media in Kosovo.
The investigation into Sheholli has been ongoing since August 2024, including periods of physical surveillance. Evidence reportedly revealed that he received information from the BIA, which was subsequently published in Kosovan media and communicated back to the Serbian intelligence official via phone.
Connection to AKI Scandal
Investigations by KALLXO.com revealed that Sheholli was mentioned in a dossier submitted to the Special Prosecutor’s Office by the Kosovo Intelligence Agency (AKI) in mid-2024. The report alleged that around €2 million from AKI’s Special Fund were spent improperly between 2017 and 2020 by three former directors: Driton Gashi, Shpend Maxhuni, and Kreshnik Gashi.
Of these funds, over €1 million were reportedly handled by Gashi, with €500,000 unaccounted for and the remaining €500,000 confirmed to have been received by Sheholli. Additional sums were allegedly transferred to Sheholli by Maxhuni, totaling approximately €139,000 across four transactions.
Public Profile
Sheholli is a well-known public figure in Kosovo, having appeared frequently on television programs. He was also mentioned in the Kosovo Assembly by Prime Minister in office, Albin Kurti, who in 2023 publicly warned: “Do not meet with Fatmir Sheholli, the collaborator of Serbia.”
The case continues to attract attention as the legal process unfolds, with Sheholli remaining in pre-trial detention while investigations proceed.
