Kosovo Customs, in cooperation with the Border Police, has successfully prevented an attempt to smuggle undeclared monetary funds through the Vërmicë border crossing.
In the early morning hours, during a detailed inspection upon entry into the Republic of Kosovo, a vehicle was selected for a secondary check after its occupants made a negative declaration. During this inspection, €55,000 in cash was discovered on the bodies of both the driver and the passenger.
Following consultation with the duty prosecutor, procedural actions were taken. In accordance with the Customs and Excise Code, 25% of the undeclared amount was initiated for confiscation, while the remaining funds have been temporarily withheld pending the conclusion of investigations.
Kosovo Customs reminds all individuals entering or exiting the Republic of Kosovo that carrying more than €10,000 requires mandatory declaration in accordance with current legislation. Failure to declare constitutes a violation and is subject to punitive measures.
