Kosovo’s Minister of Defence, Ejup Maqedonci, has strongly rejected statements made by Serbian military officials portraying the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) as a threat to the Serbian community in Kosovo, describing such claims as false, irresponsible, and contrary to the reality on the ground.
Maqedonci’s response followed remarks by Milan Mojsilović, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Serbia, who attempted to present the KSF as a security risk for ethnic Serbs living in Kosovo.
KSF Described as Professional and Democratic Force
In a public statement, Maqedonci emphasized that the Kosovo Security Force is a professional institution built according to the highest democratic standards. He stressed that the force operates under full civilian oversight, in strict compliance with Kosovo’s constitution, domestic legislation, and international obligations.
“The Kosovo Security Force’s mandate remains the protection of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Kosovo, as well as guaranteeing security for all citizens without distinction,” Maqedonci stated.
Modernisation Seen as Legitimate State Right
The defence minister further highlighted that the strengthening and modernization of Kosovo’s military capacities is not aimed at threatening any party, but represents a legitimate right of a sovereign state and a necessary measure to ensure long-term peace, stability, and security both domestically and regionally.
He also warned that narratives intended to intimidate communities or justify destabilizing political agendas do not contribute to peace and stability, urging responsible and balanced approaches to regional security issues.
Commitment to International Cooperation
Maqedonci reaffirmed Kosovo’s commitment to close cooperation with international partners and to building a safe and stable environment for all citizens. He concluded by reiterating that Kosovo’s defence structures are focused on protection and security rather than confrontation.
