Kosovo’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MPJD) has officially requested that Serbia confirm the reported arrest of Saša Đorđević, a Kosovo Serb from Štrpce, detained by Serbia’s Security Information Agency (BIA) on suspicion of spying for Albania’s Intelligence Service via Kosovo’s own agency.
Đorđević was reportedly arrested at the Merdare border crossing on July 28, in cooperation with Serbia’s Prokuplje Police Department.
In response, Kosovo’s Liaison Office in Belgrade has contacted Serbia’s government, the EU Delegation, and the US and UK embassies in Belgrade. The office is also preparing formal notes to inform the Quint embassies and EU officials about the case.
“If Mr. Đorđević is remanded and prosecution begins, Kosovo’s Liaison Office will submit a formal request to visit him in detention,” MPJD told KALLXO.com.
The case follows a series of espionage arrests in 2025. On July 18, Kosovo Police officer Bojan Jevtić was detained for allegedly passing operational details to the BIA. Earlier this year, the Special Prosecution charged Bedri Shabani and Muharrem Qerimi with spying for Serbia’s secret service, sharing sensitive information on the KLA, Kosovo Police, and other security bodies.
In separate cases, Jelena Đukanović and Hysri Selimi were also arrested for espionage. According to Kosovo’s Special Prosecution, Selimi allegedly supplied the BIA with intelligence on radicalized individuals and Kosovo citizens fighting in Syria.
The unfolding situation underscores persistent tensions and mutual accusations of infiltration between Kosovo and Serbia.
