A Kosovo emigrant living in Germany, Rilind Krasniqi, has reported alleged mistreatment and a search by Serbian authorities while traveling through Serbia.

According to Krasniqi, he was held under control by Serbian officials for approximately one hour, during which his personal belongings were searched and several items were confiscated, including €2,500 in cash.

In a social media post, Krasniqi stated that the search was linked to photographs stored on his phone and Facebook account. The images reportedly included photos of his father, who was a member of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), as well as well-known figures from Kosovo’s war period, including Adem Jashari, Vesel Aruci, and Mujë Krasniqi.

“They searched me for about an hour, thoroughly checked my belongings, and took personal items, including €2,500,” Krasniqi wrote.

Warnings for Kosovo Citizens Traveling Through Serbia

Krasniqi urged citizens to exercise caution and avoid traveling through Serbia, claiming that Kosovo citizens — particularly those with ties to the KLA or war-related figures — may face discrimination or strict security checks.

Not an Isolated Incident

Reports of similar cases involving Kosovo citizens at Serbian border crossings have surfaced previously. Recently, Mit’hat Llozhani, a former KLA member, was arrested by Serbian authorities at the Batrovci border crossing while traveling from Germany to Kosovo.

Kosovo’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has accused Serbia of violating international human rights standards, calling on the international community to increase pressure on Serbian authorities to address these concerns.
