Kosovo’s State Prosecutor has detained eight individuals for criminal offenses related to voting rights during today’s elections.
According to a statement from the Prosecutorial System, prosecutors will continue to oversee the vote counting process at polling stations until ballots are transferred to municipal centers.
Election Oversight and Legal Actions
The State Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that approximately 100 prosecutors and additional legal personnel were assigned to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
Throughout the day, prosecutors received multiple reports of alleged voting violations. Following verification, four cases were opened against eight suspects, while other reports remain under investigation.
Case Breakdown:
- Mitrovica Basic Prosecution initiated two cases:
- First case: Four people detained on suspicion of “Influencing voters’ free determination” under Article 210 of the Criminal Code of Kosovo.
- Second case: One person detained for the same offense.
- Prishtina Basic Prosecution also opened two cases:
- First case: One person detained for “Assault on an official person” under Article 402.
- Second case: Two people detained for “Preventing the exercise of the right to vote” under Article 209.
The State Prosecutor’s Office has expressed gratitude to citizens, media, and civil society for their cooperation in preventing and prosecuting electoral offenses.
