Kosovo’s electricity prices will rise by 15% starting April 1, as confirmed by Ymer Fejnullahu, Chairman of the Energy Regulatory Office (ZRRE). Speaking with business representatives, Fejnullahu explained that the increase reflects last year’s electricity import costs and future energy needs.

According to ZRRE, key factors driving the price hike include import costs and reserve power expenses, which amount to over €40 million annually to ensure uninterrupted supply.

“We hope for more favorable prices in the coming years,” Fejnullahu stated, adding that Kosovo needs local energy production to reduce dependency on imports.

Despite public backlash, he defended the price hike as necessary to maintain 24-hour electricity supply.

“For those who cannot afford it, the law allows them to request financial support from the Ministry of Finance,” he said.

ZRRE will accept public feedback until April 28 before finalizing the decision, though the outcome appears certain. Businesses warn that rising electricity costs will trigger price increases for essential goods, with the Dairy Industry Association already announcing potential hikes in milk product prices.
