The Hague, July 22, 2025 — The Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in The Hague has released a special documentary to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which confirmed that Kosovo’s declaration of independence did not violate international law.

In an official statement published on its Facebook page, the embassy highlighted the continued relevance of this historic ruling, describing it as a decision of major legal, political, and diplomatic significance—one that continues to shape international discourse on statehood and self-determination.

“On this historic anniversary, we proudly present a documentary that reflects on the ICJ’s 2010 Advisory Opinion regarding Kosovo’s Declaration of Independence,” the statement read.

The documentary features commentary and reflections from diplomats, international legal scholars, and academics, who share their perspectives on how the ICJ opinion has influenced the development of modern international law and the affirmation of Kosovo’s international legal personality.

The 2010 ICJ opinion followed a formal request by the United Nations General Assembly and represented a key milestone in Kosovo’s path to international recognition. It strengthened Kosovo’s case in global diplomatic forums and underscored the legality of its independence under international law.
