The Football Federation of Kosovo (FFK) has filed an official protest to UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin and RFEF President Rafael Louzán, condemning the unacceptable behavior of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

Ahead of the upcoming Euro 2027 qualifier between Kosovo and Spain, the Spanish Federation referred to Kosovo as “the territory of Kosovo” in its official communications — a wording considered offensive and a denial of Kosovo’s sovereignty.

Excerpt from FFK’s letter:

“Unfortunately, we are once again forced to raise an issue that undermines our representation in European competitions, related to how some federations treat our national teams.

The Spanish Football Federation referred to Kosovo as ‘the territory of Kosovo.’ Such terminology denies the sovereignty of Kosovo, a fully recognized member of UEFA, with equal rights to any other federation.

We call on UEFA to issue a clear and immediate response to this matter and demand a public correction and official acknowledgment from the Spanish Football Federation.

Kosovo deserves to be treated as an equal member of UEFA by all federations.”

The FFK stressed that values of unity, respect, and equality must be upheld by all UEFA members, both in action and in official communications.
