To stimulate economic development and create new jobs in Kosovo’s rural areas, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development (MAFRD) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, on behalf of the German Government, officially launched the remaining part of the Investment Grant Scheme today at an event in Pristina.

Boosting Rural Economy and Sustainability

The event featured speeches from acting Minister of Agriculture Faton Peci, Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy Christian Böttcher, and GIZ Kosovo Director David Oberhuber.

Minister Peci underscored the significance of this support for farmers and economic empowerment in rural areas. “With this, we will grow businesses, help farmers, rural women, youth, and marginalized groups, all of whom are an important part of the chain of sustainable agricultural development,” he stated.

Christian Böttcher, Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy in Kosovo, emphasized the German Government’s strong support for this process, which is based on transparency, accountability, and long-term impact. “The grant scheme will help farmers and agribusinesses purchase modern equipment, improve production, and be more competitive in the market. In addition, the scheme focuses on sustainability, innovation, and green development, meaning that the support is not just for today, but also for the future.”

Targeted Sectors and Grant Details

The scheme targets sectors including honey production, agritourism, medicinal plants, mushrooms, agricultural product processing, poultry, aquaculture, and non-agricultural activities in rural areas.

The scheme consists of three LOTs, with two remaining LOTs officially launched today:

  • LOT 1 supports individuals, farmers, members of agricultural households, start-up businesses, and micro/small enterprises in rural areas of Kosovo with grants ranging from €1,500 to €5,000 (100% support).
  • LOT 2 supports micro and small enterprises with grants from €5,001 to €50,000 (up to 70% support).

Attendees had the opportunity to review the application guidelines and engage directly with representatives from MAFRD and GIZ.

Application Process and Program Alignment

Applications are open from July 21 to September 22, 2025, and can be submitted online at: rural-development-kosovo.grantplatform.com or physically at the respective municipal directorates of agriculture.

This scheme, part of the “Support for Sustainable Development of the Agriculture Sector in Rural Areas through Diversification of Activities” program, is co-financed by MAFRD and the German Government and implemented by GIZ Kosovo. It contributes to the implementation of the National Program for Agriculture and Rural Development 2023–2027, under Measure 7 – Farm Diversification and Business Development, thereby strengthening the local economy and the sustainability of rural communities in Kosovo.
