The acting government of Kosovo has rejected Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić’s recent declaration of willingness to fully implement agreements from the dialogue process, calling it “far from reality.”
Vučić reportedly expressed his commitment during a meeting with EU Special Envoy Peter Sørensen, emphasizing steps to implement existing agreements, reduce tensions on the ground, and protect the rights and security of the Serbian community in Kosovo. He highlighted the importance of forming the Association of Serbian Municipalities, describing it as a key element for a sustainable solution.
“In an open discussion, I confirmed our commitment to dialogue under the EU framework, the only structure that can ensure peace, stability, and predictability for everyone living in Kosovo and Metohija,” Vučić stated.
However, Kosovo’s acting government dismissed these statements, noting that Serbia has historically blocked the implementation of agreements, including urgent humanitarian measures such as the treatment of missing persons. Klisman Kadiu, media advisor to the Prime Minister, said Serbia continues to be destructive in the process, often refusing constructive engagement in Brussels trilateral meetings.
Serbia previously refused to sign the Basic Agreement for the normalization of relations with Kosovo and sent a letter to the EU rejecting key points concerning Kosovo’s recognition and its membership in the UN and other international mechanisms.
Despite repeated requests, the European Union had not responded to questions regarding Vučić’s sincerity at the time of publication.
