Prishtina is hosting the European Case Handling Workshop 2025, one of Europe’s most significant events in the field of personal data protection. The workshop, organized for the first time in Kosovo by the Agency for Information and Privacy (AIP), runs from 17 to 19 November and brings together around 70 participants from 23 European countries, including Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Albania, and North Macedonia.
The event was officially opened by Krenare Sogojeva Dermanku, Commissioner of the AIP, with additional speeches delivered by senior officials from European data protection institutions. Among the keynote participants are:
- Zdravko Vukić, Vice-Chair of the European Board for Data Protection and Director of the Croatian Personal Data Protection Agency
- Mirosław Wróblewski, President of Poland’s Personal Data Protection Office
- Brent Homan, from the Guernsey Data Protection Authority
- Recep Keskin, from the Turkish Data Protection Authority
- Gwendal Le Grand, Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the European Board for Data Protection
These six commissioners will participate in various workshop sessions, discussing the latest challenges and developments in the field of privacy.
Focus Areas of the Workshop
The conference addresses contemporary topics in the digital era, including:
- The use of smart cameras and biometric data in public spaces
- Risks related to AI-generated content and deepfakes
- Protection of children’s data on digital platforms and online games
- Data scraping and the use of publicly available data
- Processing of health data in digitalization efforts
- Cross-border cooperation in handling data protection cases
Organizers aim for the workshop to serve as a platform for sharing best practices, institutional coordination, and advancing European cooperation in handling cases, investigations, and complaints related to personal data protection.
The AIP emphasizes that hosting the European Case Handling Workshop 2025 marks a significant achievement for Kosovo, reflecting the country’s institutional commitment and progress in data protection. Furthermore, holding such an international event enhances Kosovo’s image in Europe and promotes the adoption of advanced digital governance standards.
