The United States Department of State (DASH) has welcomed Kosovo’s readiness to temporarily host 50 migrants, expressing gratitude for the cooperation from its partner. This move comes as part of a broader U.S. strategy to facilitate the return of foreign nationals without regular status to their countries of origin.
“We are grateful to our partner, Kosovo, for hosting third-country nationals removed from the U.S. and for facilitating the safe return of these foreign nationals to their countries of origin,” DASH told CBSNews.
Kosovo’s Humanitarian Gesture and Premier’s Commitment
On Wednesday, the Government of Kosovo approved the decision to accept 50 migrants, stating its aim to “facilitate their return to their homelands.” Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti confirmed that the migrants’ temporary shelter would be provided for a one-year period.
This development follows earlier confirmation from DASH that Balkan states were involved in discussions concerning a U.S. strategy for the deportation of foreign nationals lacking regular status. Kosovo has also expressed its readiness for similar discussions with the United Kingdom, indicating a potential expansion of its role in international migrant return efforts.
