The Kosovo Hydrometeorological Institute (IHMK) has issued a statement regarding air quality in recent days.

According to the announcement, elevated levels of air pollutants have been recorded in several areas of the country.

“The drop in temperatures has increased the need for heating, leading to higher pollutant emissions into the air.

Additionally, the deterioration in air quality has been affected by dense fog in recent days, high humidity, lack of wind, and thermal inversion, which create conditions that favor the accumulation of these pollutants in the lower layers of the atmosphere,” the institute stated.

IHMK has advised sensitive individuals to avoid prolonged exposure to outdoor environments.

Full statement from IHMK:

Based on air quality monitoring by the Kosovo Hydrometeorological Institute, elevated levels of air pollutants have been recorded in several areas of the country in recent days.

The drop in temperatures has increased the need for heating, resulting in higher emissions of pollutants into the air.

Furthermore, dense fog, high humidity, absence of wind, and thermal inversion have worsened air quality, creating conditions that favor the accumulation of pollutants in the lower atmosphere.

IHMK recommends that sensitive individuals limit prolonged outdoor exposure until conditions improve.

The institute continues to monitor the situation and will inform the public of any significant changes in air quality.
