Municipalities across Kosovo may lose up to €12 million in vital funding for the Performance Grant Scheme, following the rejection of an application submitted by the Ministry of Local Government Administration (MAPL) to the European Commission.
Sazan Ibrahimi, head of the Association of Kosovo Municipalities (AKK), described the development as a major setback for both municipalities and citizens.
“This is a very concerning signal. Municipalities are being deprived of essential resources due to a lack of preparation and professionalism at the central level. The rejection by the European Commission is not only a financial loss but also a serious warning regarding how central governance manages relations with international donors,” Ibrahimi told Insajderi.
He added that the AKK has repeatedly requested clarifications from MAPL, but so far no official explanation has been provided.
“This lack of transparency leaves local governance in the dark on an issue with serious consequences for municipalities,” Ibrahimi stressed.
