Swedish MP Helena Bouveng stated that Kosovo has much to learn from Sweden’s journey to NATO membership.

As a member of the Swedish Parliamentary Defense Committee, Bouveng affirmed Sweden’s support for Kosovo in this process.

“Russia’s invasion of Ukraine had a significant impact on Europe. As a result, Sweden changed its stance. We realized that in these challenging times, we cannot stand alone, so we opted for change. Sweden’s NATO membership was essential, which is why we joined the alliance alongside Finland. Kosovo can draw valuable lessons from our and Finland’s accession to NATO structures. Sweden strongly supports Kosovo’s efforts to become a partner in the EU and NATO, but much work remains to be done,” Bouveng said.

The Swedish ambassador to Pristina, Jonas Westerlund, also provided recommendations for Kosovo on its path toward the North Atlantic alliance.

Sweden officially joined NATO on March 7 this year, expanding the alliance to 32 member states.

On Friday, the Swedish Alumni Network in Kosovo, in cooperation with the Swedish Embassy, hosted the conference “Kosovo’s Path to NATO Membership: Lessons from Sweden.”
