The European Union’s ambassador to Kosovo, Aivo Orav, has emphasized that the newly elected government must actively work to fulfill the expectations of the people, who aspire to join the EU.
“To achieve this, the new government must work very, very actively. Difficult tasks must be undertaken, and reforms must be implemented,” Orav stated on platform X, as quoted by the EU Office in Kosovo via the Associated Press.
Following the closure of polling stations on February 9, the Central Election Commission (CEC) began publishing preliminary results. With 99.17% of votes counted across 2,512 of 2,533 polling stations, the current standings are:
- Lëvizja Vetëvendosje (LVV) in coalition with Guxo and Alternativa leads with 40.83% (339,350 votes).
- The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) follows with 22.16% (184,040 votes).
- The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) is in third place with 17.60% (146,147 votes).
- The AAK-NISMA-Conservatives-Intellectuals-Ideal coalition ranks fourth with 7.46% (61,968 votes).
Kosovars voted on February 9 to elect their representatives for the next four years. The electoral process has been widely regarded as democratic and peaceful.
