Kosovo has officially been added to the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) — one of the world’s most prestigious databases for open-access scientific publications — following the inclusion of the academic journal Kosova Anthropologica.

The news was confirmed by the University of Prishtina (UP) in a public announcement. Professor Arsim Canolli, editor-in-chief of the journal and head of the Institute of Anthropology at UP, expressed his satisfaction with the development.

“We are pleased to announce that Kosovo is now officially listed in DOAJ. After our request, the platform updated its database. This is a friendly, democratic, and generous gesture by DOAJ during the International Open Access Week 2025,” said Canolli.

According to the university, Kosova Anthropologica was initially accepted into DOAJ in January 2025, and since then, its editors have worked to ensure that Kosovo itself is recognized and represented on the platform.

The DOAJ is one of the largest open-access scientific databases in the world, offering free access to scholarly journals and articles. It currently hosts 22,136 scientific journals and over 11 million research articles.

This milestone marks an important achievement for Kosovo’s academic community, enhancing its visibility and integration into the global research ecosystem.
