The Assembly of Kosovo has approved in first reading the draft law on the organization of the Mediterranean Games XXI “Prishtina 2030,” marking a major step toward hosting one of the largest sporting events in the country’s history.

The draft law received 86 votes in favor, paving the way for Prishtina to host the Mediterranean Games for the first time.

Minister of Sport Blerim Gashani presented the draft legislation, emphasizing the strategic importance of the event. He described it as the biggest sporting event ever organized in Kosovo, with expected benefits extending beyond sports.

According to Gashani, the project holds high public and national interest, as it is expected to strengthen sports infrastructure, boost economic development, and position Kosovo on the international stage as a capable host of major global events.

The draft law outlines the legal framework, responsibilities, and procedures for state institutions and other stakeholders involved in organizing the games. It also enables the government to allocate public funds, with the total projected cost estimated at no less than €253 million.

In addition, the legislation defines the roles of the Olympic Committee of Kosovo, the Municipality of Prishtina, and other participating municipalities in fulfilling organizational obligations.

Gashani stressed that, given the scale and importance of the event, establishing effective institutional mechanisms will be essential to ensure the successful delivery of “Prishtina 2030.”
