For the 25th time, Kosovo’s Parliament will attempt to convene today at 10:30 a.m., in hopes of breaking a months-long political stalemate. However, prospects remain dim as the ruling Vetëvendosje party continues to insist on Albulena Haxhiu as its candidate for Speaker of Parliament—despite firm opposition from PDK, LDK, and AAK parties.
In a statement made on Facebook, Mimoza Kusari-Lila, a senior Vetëvendosje MP, confirmed that the party will not change its nomination. She accused the opposition of deliberately obstructing quorum formation, referencing point 128 of the 2014 Constitutional Court ruling, which she claims is being violated.
“The issue is no longer Albulena herself, but the quorum required for the secret ballot. The opposition is set to block the session for the 17th time,” she wrote.
On Saturday, after the latest session failed, Vetëvendosje MP Artan Abrashi said talks with the NISMA party are ongoing in search of a breakthrough agreement. He emphasized the importance of maintaining dialogue with all MPs, including those who may disagree with their party lines.
“We are in discussions with NISMA and open to hearing their demands and concerns. We’ll reach out to every reasonable MP to help bring an end to this institutional crisis,” Abrashi noted.
Meanwhile, Xhevahire Izmaku of NISMA stated that Kosovo needs a unifying figure like Fatmir Limaj and expressed optimism that political will exists to resolve the deadlock.
