Kosovo’s MPs will convene tomorrow for the 45th time in a continued effort to constitute the Parliament, a process that has now stretched into almost three months with a failed session every 48 hours.

What’s the Status?

In the most recent session on Tuesday, MPs once again failed to form the Committee for Secret Ballot Voting, a key step toward electing parliamentary leadership and moving the institution forward.

Tensions remain high in the chamber, with Acting Speaker Avdni Dehari repeatedly instructing technicians to cut microphones for MPs from PDK, LDK, and AAK, as debates grow increasingly disruptive.

Constitutional Deadline Looms

The Constitutional Court has ruled that the first parliamentary session must be completed within 30 days — a deadline which expires on July 22. However, political parties disagree on how to interpret the ruling, deepening the stalemate.

What Comes Next?

Kosovo’s President, Vjosa Osmani, met with party representatives last week in an attempt to mediate the crisis and mentioned the possibility of asking the Constitutional Court for further clarification.

As the institutional crisis continues, questions arise over Kosovo’s democratic functionality and political stability, with time running out to resolve the deadlock.
