The Kosovo Assembly has once again failed to convene, marking the 45th attempt to formally constitute the parliament, Rks News reports.
Vetëvendosje (VV) continued pushing for a secret ballot vote to elect the Speaker of Parliament. However, opposition parties including PDK, LDK, AAK, and Lista Serbe refused to nominate members for the commission overseeing the secret ballot process.
When called for nominations, opposition MPs accused presiding officer Avni Dehari of violating the Constitution.
“Today marks the 45th time the presiding officer has violated the Constitution. This is unacceptable,” said PDK MP Abelard Tahiri, before his microphone was cut by Dehari.
LDK’s Ekrem Hyseni proposed returning to the agenda, but his speech was also cut off. AAK’s Time Kadriaj accused the session of being intentionally blocked, yet was muted instantly.
“There is no room for debate,” declared Dehari.
There were 99 MPs present in the chamber.
“49 MPs in favor, none against, no abstentions. We do not have quorum. The session is adjourned. We’ll reconvene on 13 July at 11:00,” announced Dehari.
VV’s nominee for Speaker remains Albulena Haxhiu.
