Kosovo’s Parliament remains in limbo as today marks the ninth continuation of the constitutive session for the country’s ninth legislature. Despite repeated efforts, deputies have failed to elect a Speaker of the Assembly, with the latest attempt seeing Albulena Haxhiu, the candidate from Lëvizja Vetëvendosje (LVV), falling short once again.
On Tuesday, Haxhiu received only 54 votes in favor, 44 against, and 3 abstentions—well below the required 61 votes.
As the deadlock deepens, opposition parties—notably the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK)—have called on LVV to propose a new candidate. Meanwhile, LDK has firmly rejected any candidate put forth by Albin Kurti’s party.
Despite mounting pressure, LVV remains resolute in backing Haxhiu for the top parliamentary post.
In a potential shift, Albin Kurti has initiated consultations in an effort to overcome the institutional impasse. This morning at 08:30, he invited PDK leader Memli Krasniqi and LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku for talks. While Krasniqi has accepted the invitation, emphasizing the urgent need for institutional unblocking, LDK announced that Abdixhiku is abroad and unable to attend.
The next chapter of this political standstill will unfold today at 10:00, as the constitutive session resumes—once again without a clear path to resolution.
