Kosovo’s parliament convenes today for the 19th consecutive session in an ongoing deadlock over the election of a new Assembly Speaker, more than three months after the February 9 elections.
The standoff centers on the nomination of Albulena Haxhiu by the ruling Vetevendosje (LVV) party. Opposition parties — PDK, LDK, and AAK — have firmly rejected Haxhiu’s candidacy, calling her unacceptable for the top parliamentary post.
In recent sessions, acting chair Avni Dehari has attempted to form a special committee to allow for a secret ballot vote, hoping to break the impasse. However, the initiative has also failed due to lack of quorum.
Kosovo remains without a fully functional legislature or new government, as institutional paralysis continues despite citizens casting their votes more than three months ago.
