The Assembly of Kosovo is scheduled to convene on Sunday at 10:00 a.m., where lawmakers are expected to vote on the formation of the new Government of the Republic of Kosovo.

The Prime Minister in office and leader of Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, who has been nominated to form the government, has only two days left to present his cabinet lineup and governing program before members of parliament.

In the February 9, 2025 parliamentary elections, Vetëvendosje emerged as the largest party, securing 48 out of 120 seats in the Assembly — insufficient for a governing majority, which requires at least 61 votes.

Although Kurti has expressed readiness to govern, negotiations over potential coalition partners remain unresolved.

Kosovo is currently facing an institutional deadlock, with the Assembly having delayed for months the election of its speaker, deputy speakers, and full parliamentary structure.

According to the Constitution of Kosovo, if Kurti fails to secure a majority for his government proposal by 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, the President must appoint a second nominee for prime minister within 10 days. This nominee would then have 15 days to present a new government proposal — provided they can demonstrate sufficient parliamentary support.

Should this attempt also fail, Kosovo may head toward new parliamentary elections, which the President would be constitutionally required to call within 45 days after consultations with political party leaders.
