Kosovo Police Reflect on 2024 Security Challenges and Achievements
Kosovo Police have published their results and achievements for the year 2024, acknowledging that the past year posed significant challenges for security, especially in the northern regions. However, the police highlight that they have proven their preparedness to confront all risks and threats to public order and national security.
Despite the challenges in maintaining overall security, especially in northern Kosovo, the Kosovo Police emphasized their commitment to upholding constitutional order. They demonstrated their readiness to address any threats to public safety and security throughout the country.
“Although 2024 was a challenging year for Kosovo Police in terms of security, particularly in the north, our dedication and commitment to maintaining order have proven that the Kosovo Police is prepared to face all risks and threats to public safety,” the police stated.
The police’s primary objectives have included enforcing the law effectively, preventing and combating various forms of crime, monitoring and securing the state border, fostering international cooperation in law enforcement, and providing services to citizens without discrimination.
Key Security Incidents and Police Response
Throughout 2024, the police tackled several significant criminal and terrorist attacks in the northern region, including the attacks in Banjskë and Zubin Potok, and the successful confiscation of large quantities of ammunition during subsequent raids.
These criminal and terrorist attacks aimed to disrupt public order and hinder the fair enforcement of laws for all citizens. Despite these efforts, the Kosovo Police successfully managed the situation with professionalism and resolve.
“Security in Kosovo remained generally calm during this period, except in the north, where the situation was fragile, marked by several criminal and terrorist attacks,” the Kosovo Police report explains. These attacks included a terrorist assault on the police station in Zveçan, an attack on the Zveçan Municipal building, an attack on critical infrastructure in the Iber Lepenc Canal in Zubin Potok, and the confiscation of significant amounts of military-grade equipment, ammunition, and supplies.
Ongoing Commitment to Public Safety
The Kosovo Police emphasized that these attacks targeted the integrity of public safety and law enforcement but were successfully managed by the police force, ensuring the protection of the citizens of Kosovo.
“The Kosovo Police, with its determination and professionalism, successfully managed to handle the security situation, particularly in the northern region, where the threat of criminal and terrorist activities remained high,” the statement concluded.
