Prishtina, July 22, 2025 —
Following recent remarks by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić over the arrest of Serbian official Igor Popović, the General Director of the Kosovo Police, Gazmend Hoxha, has issued a firm response, stating that Kosovo’s security institutions are fully aware of Serbia’s political intentions and are prepared to face any potential scenario.

“We are well aware of Serbia’s political objectives, particularly those of its institutions. Historically, they have not always been supportive of peace and security in our country. We are ready to face any challenge that may arise,” Hoxha said.

Security Stable, Except in the North
Hoxha reassured the public that the overall security situation across Kosovo remains stable, with the exception of the northern region, which continues to experience tensions.

“The security situation is calm and stable, except in the northern part of the country, where it remains fragile due to political actions. The Government of Serbia continues to exert direct influence through criminal and extremist groups that destabilize the area,” he explained.

Vučić Threatens Retaliation
President Vučić, reacting to Popović’s arrest, warned that Serbia “will respond harshly” and accused Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti of “seeking conflict and driving the region toward destabilization.”

The arrest of Igor Popović, a Serbian government representative accused of inciting unrest, has triggered a strong diplomatic backlash from Belgrade. Kosovo authorities, however, maintain that the arrest was lawful and justified based on security assessments.

As tensions continue to simmer, Kosovo’s institutions remain on alert and committed to maintaining peace and the rule of law.
