Kosovo Border Police detained a Serbian citizen and a French woman near the Koshare UÇK memorial, following reports from local residents, authorities confirmed.

The individuals were traveling in a Volkswagen Passat with Serbian license plates. They were taken to the Gjakovë police station for verification and later released, as no criminal activity was detected.

Local resident B.F. described the incident as a form of provocation, noting that this was the 20th occurrence involving Serbian visitors in the area. Historically, some visitors have displayed Serbian flags alongside UÇK symbols, raising sensitivities among the local community.

“They said they came to visit the site, but arriving at 7:30 PM raised questions. Police conducted standard checks, including inspecting phones. Some visitors even used drones and displayed flags,” said B.F.

Lumni Graishta, Regional Director of Gjakovë Police, explained that after consultation with the state prosecutor, the visitors were temporarily detained for verification. Once the investigation confirmed there was no illegal activity, they were released with an official note.

The Koshare area holds historical significance as the site of a key UÇK victory in April 1999, where Kosovo forces successfully breached the border. The battle has been documented in numerous books and documentaries, including a recent production by Serbian state television.
